KPN is committed to its social and ehtical responsibilities and wants to ensure that its work practices across the company are in strict compliance with the law and consistent with social and ethical standards.
KPN is not only bound by current legislation, but also by the standards it sets for itself. These standards have been laid down in the Company Code and the supporting codes. The Company Code describes KPN’s core values: personal, simplicity and trust, and their relevance for stakeholders. All stakeholders (customers, shareholders, employees, business associates, competitors, environmental organizations, international business relations and the community in the widest sense) may address KPN on these values.
The supporting codes provide practical codes of conduct on specific areas. Some codes further implement external regulation, such as the codes on competition and insider trading. Other codes concern integrity matters (gifts, outside positions) and (information)security.
To complement the rules in the supporting codes, KPN introduced three general policies: the whistleblower policy, the fraud policy and the protocol on integrity investigations. Employees are encouraged to report (potential) breaches of the Company Code or supporting codes. KPN’s internal Security department plays an important role in this process. The department offers support through a helpdesk where employees can report non-compliance and can receive information on the principles underlying the codes. In the event a breach is reported, our Security department conducts an investigation on a strictly confidential basis. The outcome of the investigation is reported to local management and in relevant cases to the Audit Committee.
Since 2005, KPN has a Group Compliance Officer to support management in compliance. The Group Compliance Officer has the responsibility to set up a compliance program, in particular for telecommunications and competition law and the Company Code. Business Compliance Officers have been appointed in the most relevant divisions of the company. The Group Compliance Officer periodically reports to the Board of Management and the Audit Committee of the Supervisory Board.
In 2003, KPN introduced a whistleblower procedure (available in English, French and German) which allows employees to report abuses.
