Stichting Mijn Kind Online (My Child Online Foundation) is a center for knowledge and advice on youth and new and old media which aims at providing greater insight into the potential of new media whilst promoting its responsible use.
Mijn Kind Online was jointly set up by KPN and Ouders Online (Parents Online). It has its own independent editorial staff who publish eye-opening features about prohibited commercial activities on the internet targeting children, through mistyped web addresses, among other things. The foundation also broaches the problems children and parents have with unwanted text messaging services.
The foundation has two important spearheads: it wants quality media for children and good media education. Remco Pijpers, spokesman for the foundation, said, “It’s only right that we should alert parents, teachers and children to the dangers of the internet. But parents need much more information than simply on safety issues. They want to know how long their child ought to use the computer, what they should do if their child has a traumatic experience with the internet and what sites are suitable and can be trusted. Even more important is the question, how do I talk about it with my child? It concerns educational information, which is why it’s so important that Ouders Online (Parents Online), the biggest community for parents on the internet, is involved with our foundation.”
Mijn Kind Online introduced the free children’s browser MyBee in June 2008. What makes this product so innovative is what is known as a 'white list' that parents can use to keep each other informed about the best websites for children. What is more, it has a professional editorial staff that adds its own assessment.

Parents want their children to do other things than just surf the internet, like doing homework for instance. But how can you arrange that without getting into an argument? It’s easy. You download a free computer program called TimeSlot. It gives parents an automatic helping hand and enables children to stick to the agreement you reached about how long they are allowed use the computer.

Every year, the Mijn Kind Online foundation organizes a competition called Gouden Apenstaart to find the best children’s site of the year. The winner last year was KRO Kindertijd. The Minister for Youth and Families, André Rouvoet, awarded the prize.
