More and more data, often containing many personal details, is being sent over the Internet. Increasingly high demands are therefore made on security and privacy. Society entrusts the careful and safe processing of this data to ICT service suppliers. We want to offer this confidence at all times to our customers – government, companies and citizens.
We are aware that certain developments put security and privacy under pressure - digital criminal activity (cybercrime and hackers) for example. KPN itself was the victim of a hack in January 2012. Privacy is coming under increasing pressure because of the explosive growth in social media, which means that personal details easily get into the public domain.
Our broad portfolio of services and products for all areas of society shows that KPN gives security and privacy the highest priority. This portfolio includes advanced services for national government, the police and the military, and extremely secure data centers. We supply firewall, anti-virus and anti-spam products to companies and we enter into partnerships with specialist companies to further enhance our expertise in the field of security.
In our own organization we have a professional and fully developed security and safety policy for our staff. Since the spring of 2012 KPN has its own cyber security unit. The CEO of KPN is co-chairman of the Dutch Cyber Security Board and we take part in lobby groups and trade associations involved in privacy issues, such as the privacy committee of VNO-NCW, the Dutch employers' federation, and ICT-Office. KPN is also represented in the Dutch Anti-Child Pornography Task Force and we regularly discuss privacy issues with government, regulators and social organizations.
The Internet has a lot of benefits, but also has its less attractive side that we, together with other parties, wish to prevent or combat.
