KPN wants to make maximum use of green electricity that is generated from renewable sources such as wind energy and biomass. In the Netherlands, since the beginning of 2011 we have procured only green electricity that is generated virtually entirely in the Netherlands. In Belgium we had already switched to 100% green electricity in 2010. In Germany we are halfway there and aim to achieve 75 per cent in 2012.
We want 1 per cent of our gas consumption in the Netherlands in 2012 to be biogas. We will then be one of the biggest biogas users in the Netherlands. In 2013 we aim to use biogas whenever possible, subject to price and availability. The aim of these targets is to stimulate the development of the green gas market in the Netherlands.
As from 2012 we compensate our CO2 emissions in the Netherlands. We will use the Gold Standard climate compensation for this. In 2011, we started collaborating with the World Wildlife Fund to lessen our impact on the climate. We joined the Climate Savers Program because of our ambition to operate climate neutrally in 2020 and because of the energy savings that we have realized up to now in the network and the data centers
