All suppliers are presumed to comply with our General Conditions of Purchase of which the Supplier Code of Conduct is part. Indeed, KPN’s preference is for suppliers that go further than our Code of Conduct. We expect our suppliers to ask their subcontractors to comply with the Code as well. Once a year we make a risk analysis to establish which of our suppliers might be operating at odds with social norms, including human rights and the elimination of child labor. In 2010, we are asking these suppliers to cooperate with us in a self-audit.

The full English version of the Supplier Code of Conduct and the example letter for subcontractors can be found to the right, under ‘downloads’.

We have set out our environmental requirements in the areas of energy consumption, packaging, recycling and use of raw materials in the standard order specifications and contracts.

Many of KPN’s suppliers are already agreed to be audited by E-tasc. This is the audit system of GeSi, the global organization in which telecom providers and their suppliers work together to make the Supply Chain more sustainable. In the long term, KPN will make participation in E-tasc mandatory for all suppliers.

The policy for sustainable procurement, risk analysis and audit of the Supplier Code of Conduct is the responsibility of the Corporate Procurement Office of KPN.

Control and audit

E-tasc, Corporate Questionnaire
At the request of KPN, a supplier is required to become a member of E-tasc and to fill in the Corporate Questionnaire. Every supplier that KPN considers to be a supplier at risk receives such a request. The E-tasc questionnaire gives a detailed picture of a supplier’s risks, if any.

The following steps will be taken if suppliers fail to comply with KPN’s request to register with E-tasc:

The buyer will liaise closely with the supplier about the steps to be taken.

E-tasc, Facility Questionnaire
If the completed Corporate Questionnaire so necessitates, suppliers will be asked to fill in the Facility Questionnaire. This is a more detailed version of the questionnaire which is filled in for each production location. This gives a very accurate and detailed understanding of the risks.

Various actions can be taken on the basis of the Facility Questionnaire:
