The accelerated roll-out of KPN’s high speed mobile data network in Germany is running ahead of schedule. This allows KPN’s German operator E-Plus to already start offering new value for money mobile data services from 1 November 2010. KPN Group Belgium has already started offering new mobile data services as planned.

KPN considers mobile data as an additional area of growth, with customer demand rapidly increasing. E-Plus’ accelerated network roll-out is supported by the spectrum acquired in the recent German auction as well as its various successful operational, technological and commercial partnerships.

In line with KPN’s Challenger strategy, E-Plus will take a region-by-region approach to marketing mobile data services, with an initial focus on those regions where the company has a high market share.

On 1 November, under the BASE brand, E-Plus will launch new, simple and affordable offerings. The offers combine a range of smartphones plus a flat-fee data package for a single monthly fee to which a choice of voice plans can be added. The range of smartphones will be extended by private label devices of which the first one will be available from December. KPN’s offering is intended to lower entry barriers, thereby making mobile data services accessible and attractive to the great mass of the German market, similar to the voice offerings that were launched in 2005. The packages will be available nationwide, but will initially be marketed in 9 cities, and will be further rolled-out in 2011.
