Following the publication of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices, KPN can call itself one of the most sustainable telecom companies in Europe for the second year in a row. 10 per cent of European Telcos merit a place in the Dow Jones Sustainability Europe Index.
KPN scored more points than last year for the Dow Jones Sustainability Index World (DJSI World) 2011, but because other Telcos did even better, KPN just misses a mention in this World Index 2011.
On a 100-point scale KPN achieved 87 points this year compared to 84 points last year. ‘Naturally we are disappointed that we are not in the index this year’, explains Management Board member Baptiest Coopmans, responsible for KPN’s sustainability policy. ‘At the same time the increase in points does show that we are on the right track. This is an immense incentive to us. We are determined to improve our sustainability policy even further in 2012 and hopefully we will make it back into the DJSI World in 2012.’
The publication of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices shows that telecom companies worldwide are rapidly becoming more and more sustainable. Last year the leader scored only 86 points. This year, with its 87 points KPN is no longer in the range for a mention in the world index. KPN improved its performance particularly with respect to the environment (CO2 emissions, energy consumption), HR policy and transparency. The quality of the services, which is a relatively important aspect in the calculations, needs to be improved even further and KPN will continue to invest in this. Eelco Blok, CEO of KPN, already announced this in May of this year during the presentation of the new strategy.
