But how can innovation help you or your organisation?
KPN will be pleased to brainstorm with you on these questions. We will keep you informed on thiswebsite about our vision of the future, projects and cutting-edge services.
The healthcare sector is in a state of flux. An ageing population and a rise in treatment opportunities mean that the demand for healthcare is growing. The healthcare sector in the Netherlands wants to continue offering the best conceivable healthcare, but financial resources are limited, the shortage of qualified personnel is still increasing and the healthcare consumer is becoming ever more critical. Innovative solutions are needed because we have to do more with less.
KPN wants to offer support in the healthcare process through the use of IT. For example, Werkplek Online (Online Workstations) enables medical professionals to work anywhere at any time, and with the use of the KPN Cyber Centers medical data can be stored and interchanged safely. ZorgConnect (Healthcare Connect) gives healthcare providers the possibility of interchanging information via a certified national healthcare network. Patients are enjoying more and more “comfort services”, which enable them to continue living independently thanks to, for instance, the advanced mobile alarm system.
KPN is collaborating with its partners to devise innovative solutions. Together with the Erasmus Medical Center, KPN has developed the diabetes station, which allows diabetes patients to measure their own vital values and get immediate feedback from the system. This innovation is directly linked to the alarming increase in the number of diabetes patients.
At a national level, KPN is taking part in the eHealthNu consortium. eHealthNu focuses on healthcare innovation and aims to make applications available both regionally and nationally by 2020. eHealthNu is an initiative of six organizations: Philips, Menzis, Achmea, Rabobank, KPN and TNO.
KPN is connected to healthcare with a view to improving the efficiency, effectiveness and quality of healthcare for everyone.

Radio-frequency identification (RFID) is an automatic identification method, relying on storing and remotely retrieving data using devices called RFID tags or transponders.
An RFID tag can be applied to or incorporated into a product, animal, or person for the purpose of identification using radio waves. F.i. in your cellphone or in your arm, or in a book, a company card, a hospital bracelet, or on fresh vegetables in a crate. Some tags can be read from several meters away and beyond the line of sight of the reader. As a ICT service provider KPN facilitates companies that want to use RFID in their business processes. New applications are tested. Read more on RIFD, recent pilots and experiences. KPN is one of the companies that set up the RFID Platform Nederland.
The small chip is easy to incorporate into packaging, virtually ruling out damage. RFID data can be linked into existing information systems. The RFID chip is expected to replace the barcode within a few years from now.

An intelligent building knows exactly what’s going on within and around its walls. It can tell you which employees are inside, which valuable items are on the premises and the condition of the building. But an intelligent building is not just the most secure building, it’s also the most hospitable you can imagine.

Smart Metering, or remote measurement, is increasingly being used to measure consumption and optimise the control of logistical processes. Thanks to telemetry, companies can reduce their costs and work more efficiently, because staff no longer physically have to go to a location to perform a measurement.
The usage possibilities are enormous and KPN is there to facilitate the underlying communication technology and advise you. Together with various partners, KPN has already implemented numerous telemetry projects, including:
