Mobile phone turns Walkie Talkie

Den Haag, 2-2-07

KPN and the American enterprise Sonim have signed a contract to deliver a Push-to-Talk system for mobile phones enabling them to be used as Walkie Talkies as well. There is huge interest in these types of interoperable possibilities, not only in the main from industrial enterprises in the building, transport and security sectors, but also including the repair sector, health care and the hotel and catering sectors.

With just one simple push of a button people can make immediate contact with each other and engage in group conversations. What's more, workers in the field can instantly connect to one central desktop. This means that several people can simultaneously receive instructions via the central desktop while at different locations. Providing additional communication channels can be vital when fast coordinated action can make a real difference. In case of an evacuation, for instance, or for very large transport or at big events.

This is why Sonim is supplying a Push-to-Talk system with its specially designed handsets. "Push-to-Talk gives companies the option of affordable group communication for a variety of different mobile phones," said Eelco Blok, member of KPN's Management Board. "Sonim is absolutely the best partner for KPN to deliver these services to our customers." He went on to say, "Sonim offers a unique combination of Push-to-Talk applications and tools so we can provide the best and most complete communication solutions available on the market as we speak."

Albert Costilo, Sonim's Sales Director for Europe, added, "Until recently, Push-to-Talk communication was very limited. Sonim has designed a standard-based solution which makes communication much easier, especially for mobile field force work teams." He said, "We are very pleased to work with a leading-edge company like KPN and offer these next generation services for business communication."
