KPN has won the international GTB (Global Telecoms Business) Innovation Award for the innovative power of the new fiber network it is rapidly rolling out in the Netherlands. The prize was presented yesterday evening at the 2007 Innovation Awards ceremony held by Global Telecoms Business Magazine in London. This award marks KPN as the global leader in end-to-end network transformation.
“Both the speed with which we are rolling out the fiber network and the technological advance the rollout brings to the whole of the Netherlands put us at the forefront of the market. This award is fantastic recognition for KPN. We are way ahead of the competition and will continue pioneering to provide the best possible service to our customers,” says John Quist, KPN’s All IP Vice President, in London to accept the award in person.
It was in 2006 that KPN first launched its comprehensive and ambitious All IP program to upgrade the Dutch telecoms network. In 2010, virtually the whole of the Netherlands should be covered by a futureproof telecoms infrastructure based on fiber, ready to provide the latest ICT and multimediaservices. Already, various locations in the Netherlands are working with the new standard in telecoms. One of them is Enschede, where KPN and third parties offer services through the KPN fiber network.
The advantage for customers is that the new platform offers higher speeds and a far larger capacity than technologies now widely used. IP and fiber are tomorrow’s standard, already within reach of more and more customers today thanks to KPN’s enterprise. Besides, KPN’s network is a national and open network, through which other operators can also offer their services. This gives customers quicker and easier access to all kinds of new services like ultra high speed internet and interactive TV.
