KPN introduce professional e-mail service for small businesses

Den Haag, 10-5-06

KPN today announced a new professional e-mail service called Exchange Online. Based on the Microsoft® Solution for Hosted Messaging and Collaboration, the new service gives small business customers the ability to access e-mail and related content, such as calendar, contact and task lists, whether they’re in the office or on the road. Managed entirely by KPN, Exchange Online will allow businesses to communicate more efficiently, reducing their administrative overhead and connecting their employees with business-critical information whenever and wherever they need it. Exchange Online follows the success of Exact Online, KPN’s accounting package, as the next in a series of online solutions. Further online services are expected to follow later in the year.

Exchange Online enables customers to gain access to important information either in the office or on the road, and from a variety of devices. The solution will work from a PC or laptop, a connected PDA or Windows Mobile Smartphone. Wherever customers have access to an Internet connection, they can now be seamlessly connected to their e-mail, able to update their agenda in real time and access other business applications as well. This service is predominantly aimed at companies with five or more employees.

Working efficiently

Exchange Online provides businesses with a simple, professional e-mail system that can be used anywhere. This has positive productivity benefits and, as a hosted service, there is no need for software installation or administration. It is also simple to add or remove employees’ access to information whilst a business is growing or downsizing. Businesses are assured of security and professional administration as the service is completely managed by KPN. Exchange Online is available for € 9.95 per user, per month. There are no upfront fees and no need for initial investment.

Collaborating with Microsoft

KPN is working in close co-operation with Microsoft to provide enterprise-class communication tools for small businesses that do not have a dedicated internal IT resource. These companies will now be able to benefit from the same experience as large business customers using Exchange Server 2003.

Partnership

Henjo Groenewegen, senior vice president Business Market at KPN: ‘We are delighted with our collaboration with Microsoft. With Exchange Online we are extending our promise of across the board online applications for business clients. Partnerships with leading IT companies such as Microsoft are of significant strategic importance in achieving this goal.’

Maria Martinez, corporate vice president of the Communications Sector at Microsoft commented ‘KPN is a strategic partner for delivering Microsoft solutions. Introducing Exchange Online is an important further step towards offering a comprehensive portfolio of services for the small and medium sized business market. The Microsoft Solution for Hosted Messaging and Collaboration version 3.5 enables smaller businesses to benefit from the same rich enterprise class e-mail and other services simply and cost effectively by working with KPN.’
