KPN International expands global network with new high-speed data connections to Turkey

Den Haag, 6-8-08

KPN International, a leading European provider of new generation telecommunications services, has further increased its global coverage with new high speed data connections to Turkey. This makes KPN one of the first international providers to obtain a licence to operate in the deregulated Turkish telecommunications market.

The new data services to Turkey have been made available using three fully redundant terrestrial network routes. Operating in conjunction with a second KPN Point of Presence (POP) in Istanbul, this guarantees customers extremely fast and secure connections with speeds of up to 622 Mbit/s and a service reliability rate of 99.99%. Thanks to equipment installed at the POPs in Istanbul, KPN can also fully manage and monitor its customers’ network connections and equipment. As always, international customer service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Further extension of KPN’s international coverage
KPN International has been active in the Turkish telecommunications market for over a year and these activities represent a further step in KPN's global growth ambitions. The first customer connections to Turkey have already been established for KPN’s corporate and carrier customers. Carolien Nijhuis, Managing Director of KPN International, says: "These new connections illustrate that our European network now covers an area extending from Northern Europe all the way down to Istanbul in Southern Europe. We are able to provide our customers with an even more competitive, all-in-one service, including local connections and a central point of contact at KPN. Thanks to the three redundant network routes, our customers can now benefit from truly reliable connections to Turkey.”

The new connections to Turkey illustrate how KPN also serves customers through its advanced international network in emerging markets, such as in Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and North, West and South Africa. KPN’s connections to and from Turkey enable it to offer customers high-quality international IP VPN and SDH services for data, voice, video and IP.
