This is expected to have an impact on around 200 jobs on a total of 930.
The objective of BASE is to substantially grow its customer base in the coming years. To achieve this, the company decided to move away from a totally horizontal integrated business model.
BASE started to implement this turn around strategy (centred around Freedom of Speech) during the summer of 2003 after fixing the basics and including an investment of over 270 million Euro in completing its network coverage from early 2002 to end 2003. The coverage is now in line with competition. The campaign strategy has proven successful and the subscriber base is growing rapidly with a total of 91.000 new customers in Q4, 2003, a trend which has certainly been confirmed in the first 2 months of 2004.
BASE has been EBITDA positive for the last 5 quarters, and it rose from 10 million in 2002 to 48 million in 2003.
To remain successful and further implement its strategy, BASE intends to focus only on its core activities. The aim is to externalise activities and to outsource non-core activities aligning the company structure to the business model. The intention of BASE is to adapt its current structure to the requirements of its growth strategy. Through partnerships and outsourcing with specialist companies, BASE intends to reduce its fixed costs, focus on its specific core activities and gain efficiencies through its specialist partners..
The management of BASE intends to further implement this strategy and gain efficiencies through its partners, in close dialogue with the workers representatives.
